Built in 1858 the farm is now a charming resort lost in the woods of New Zealand’s South Island, at the foot of towering mountains. The surrounding peaks reach 7,000 meters above sea level Grasmere Lodge’s Owner Tom Butler makes sure that every guest is given the utmost hospitality and surrounded by loving care. Location: The resort is located on the South Island, 90 minutes drive from Christchurch, in the heart of the Southern Alps. The nearest airport is in Christchurch, 120 km.

Accommodation: Guests can live in the main building of the farm, in a house on the river or in a mountain hut, which has a total of 13 rooms for 24 persons. The main building houses six 37-meter rooms with scenic views of the lake, two of which can be combined with each other, the third of the 65-meter suite has a fireplace. In the cottage by the river there are two 51-meter suites with fireplaces and spacious bathrooms with Jacuzzi. The large living room entrance is common, making the cottage an ideal space of a couple, two friendly couples or a family with children who value extra space. The mountain chalet with a view of the majestic mountains, located a short walk from the farm, stands out among the pine trees. They are in the four 48-meter suites with fireplaces, and a large, 54-foot living room. Just like the house situated by the river, it’s a great deal for those close to you who wish to relax together.

Restaurants: in the dining room and in the decorated restaurant on the front porch are served delicious homemade dishes, using only healthy, natural ingredients, with a well chosen wine list, where the local cellar houses 5,000 bottles. Meals here are relaxed,with a family atmosphere. Guests thirsty for intimacy can order a meal in one of the quietest areas of the farm.

Sport, recreation and other attractions: a heated swimming pool on a hill, Jacuzzi, gym. The area surrounding is a perfect place for hiking scenic trails leading through forests and meadows, lakes, horse riding, cycling and fishing. Guests can enjoy a picnic in the shade of willows on one of the surrounding lakes, go on a jeep journey, read by the fireplace in the library, play tennis, croquet, or other games, look at the work of pastors, canoeing, go hunting or fly over the Southern Alps by plane or helicopter taking off from the runway directly at the resort. A 15-minute flight by helicopter or an hour plane drive away is a beautiful 18-hole golf course.
