Chile is the longest country in the world, stretching 6,435 km. from north to south of South America, occupying about half of its western coast. It is very narrow (average only 175 km. wide) and a long strip of land between Peru, Bolivia and Argentina, reaching the farthest southern tip of the continent – raw Tierra del Fuego and Patagonia. This unusual shape and geographical extension determine the extremely diverse climates Chile: The north of the country is the driest desert in the world of lunar landscape (Mars rovers are tested here) – Atacama desert, and mild, resembling a Mediterranean climate in the center of the country goes to the south in the snowy alpine climate which, along with volcanoes and glaciers descending toward the wooded fiordom and lakes also creates a raw, but complete opposite to the northern face. The natural western border is the Pacific, and the east of the country is guarded by the Andes. The spectacular combination of beautiful ocean coast and the majestic Andes can be seen perfectly in the picturesque town of the capital – Santiago de Chile. The land was once divided between the Inca empire, and the Indians called Mapuczami or Araucanian (the state coexisted with a Spanish colony and independent Chile almost to the twentieth century), finally it surrendered to Spanish influences, but on reservations the old Indian traditions are still cultivated. Chileans are very friendly and helpful to all tourists . Interestingly, very helpful, knowledgeable are also the local police.

The territory of Chile is not only the west coast of South America – but also far away in the Pacific Ocean, in Polynesia, is the mysterious Easter Island a territory of Chile. Also known as Rapa Nui (identically named after indigenous population of the island), Easter Island is one of the most mysterious and isolated corners of the Earth. Coastal island full of volcanoes, gazing at the sea giant moaistatues – of unknown origin unknown representation, or how and why they were set. The answer may lie in the unusual inscriptions of ancient language Rongo-Rongo, which, however, no one has so far deciphered. The interpretation of what you see on Rapa Nui is open to the field for the imagination, and certainly this is one of the most intriguing views in the world.
