Tanzanian Zanzibar is a large island off the east coast of Africa. Inhabited for a thousand years – for the first time by the Persians – was for centuries a Portuguese colony, Omani sultanate, a land the British crown and – by only half a year – an independent state. Finally, with Tanganyika he created a federation of Tanzania (United Republic of Tanzania), which symbolizes the name formed from the initial syllables of the names of both countries.

Known as the Spice Island, Zanzibar is still very exotic corner of the world, a meeting place heritage of Africa, Arabia and colonial powers, oriental land surrounded by some of the most beautiful, still unspoilt beaches of the world and phenomenal coral reefs.

It is interesting that on this island was born Freddie Mercury, though very conservative Muslims living in Zanzibar often be reluctant to mention. In view of the traveler, however, they are tolerant, and discovering their beautiful, somewhat inaccessible African paradise is sure to be an exciting adventure.
