South Africa (Republic of South Africa) – is a country large and very diverse. Its surface is 1,223,201 sq. km. or about four times the area of Poland. Diversity best describes the popular saying “Rainbow Nation” (people of all colors of the rainbow), which refers not only to the diversity of skin colors of South Africans, but also to the cultural diversity of nationalities living in the country.

According to a survey of 1996, the population in South Africa is 40,600,000. Dominantly black – 77%, followed by whites – 11%, color – 9%, Asians – 3%. The main African tribes include the Zulu, Xhosa, Tswana, Sotho, Ndebele, Swazi, Shangaan / Tonga and the remnants of the original inhabitants – Bushmen (San). Eleven languages ​​are recognized as official, and the most famous are English and Afrikaans.
