HELICOPTER SAFARI – 9 DAYS

HELICOPTER SAFARI – 9 DAYS

Day 1 – 4.
The safari starts at the airport in Johannesburg (South Africa). The first helicopter stop after more than an hour flight, is the capital of Botswana – Gaborone. After settling all official formalities, the flight continues to the town of Maun.

Most of the route runs over vast areas of the Kalahari Desert, where the bird can see eland, springboki, gemsboki and ostrorogi. From Maun the helicopter flies directly into the heart of the Okavango Delta – huge backwaters, canals, lagoons and islands were created by the masses of water that flooded every year at this point the desert.

The first lodge, where guests spend three nights is Tubu Tree. It is located in a nature reserve Jao – the area spans 60,000 hectares in the Okavango Delta, bordering the Moremi reserve animals. It consists of traditional safari tents, built on wooden platforms. Each tent is comfortably equipped among others in the bathroom.

Private tents erected next to a dining area with a lounge and a pub. Guests can explore the area and watch the animals up close during daytime and night trips by car or walking with guides. If the water level is high enough possible local mokoro boat rides on wetlands are possible. Among the large animals most often one can see elephants, lions, zebras, giraffes, kudu, impala and leopards.

Day 5 – 7.
On the outlet to the next camp on the plain, Duba Lodge was built in a grove of acacia and figs, on a plateau. During the time of a heat stroke turns into an island. Each of the 6 tents has its own bathroom and a veranda from which you can watch the countryside. The camp also includes a dining room, a pub and a pool.

The area is known primarily for it’s herds of buffaloes gathering here and lions preying on them. The life of both animals was once documented in these surroundings by a team of National Geographic. The vast variety of local aquatic birds is also impressive. Guests can explore the area by car, on foot and by boat, if a high enough level of water permits. The tour takes place both day and night.

Day 8 and 9.
The outlet to the camp of Jack’s Camp. The trip takes 1 hour and 20 minutes. It’s a classic desert camp located in the Kalahari desert, on the edge of the world’s largest Makgadikgadi salt flats. It consists of 8 comfortable tents with private bathrooms and outside showers for those who like to bathe under the stars. In separate tents, a dining area and living room features a Persian carpet, where afternoon tea is drunk. Depending on the period of the year and the amount of precipitation you can see up close the animals typical of the savanna or desert.

Explore the area by car or on foot with guides from the tribe of Bushmen, cooling off guests in the places where the historical baobabs grow, remembering the journeys of Livingstone and Selous. During the dry winter months you can go on a trip quad after solniskach.

The return journey showcases a helicopter landing on Kubu Island, where there is the greatest concentration of baobab trees throughout southern Africa. The next stop is provided in Francistown, where guests deal with the formalities of crossing the border. After a more than two-hour flight, the helicopter lands at the airport in Johannesburg.
