Greece occupies the southern part of the Balkan Peninsula, and the archipelagos of the Cyclades, Ionian, Sporades, the Dodecanese and Crete. The land is 132 thousand. km. 2, including approx. 25 thousand. km. 2occupy the island. The capital city is Athens, which is home to more than 4 million inhabitants, which represents approximately 35% of the population of the country. The official language is Modern Greek.
Greece is considered to be one of the birth places of Western Civilization as well as the cradle of European culture. The beginnings of civilization on the land dates back to at least 2,000 B.C. The Greeks gave birth to philosophy and mathematics, European painting, sculpture, architecture and literature.
Today the country is mostly visited by tourists. They arrive attracted by countless monuments, but also for the excellent conditions for relaxation. The warm sea, extensive hotel base, hundreds of beautiful beaches and islands and mountainous landscapes of the land are indisputable advantages of Greece.
An interesting experience is tasting the local cuisine, which is a combination of Turkish, Italian and Arabic. This mix is extremely varied and exquisite, it prevail in vegetables and all dishes are cooked in olive oil.
Climate: Greece is in the Mediterranean climate zone. Summer is long, dry and hot, while winter short, rainy and mild. The most northern part of the country is characterized by a climate somewhat cooler and wetter. In the central and southern regions winter temperatures range from 8° to 10° C in summer 27° to 28° C.
In the Cyclades and Crete and Rodosie in the summer there are even higher temperatures and rainfall is rare.
